The retrieval of sacred ornament from the well inside the temple of Guruvayoor brings curtain down to an agonising episode. The precious temple ornament adoring the diety went missing

The issue had political eco then. The Communist Party of India (Marxists) alleged that it was former Devaswom Board Chairman P T Mohanakrishnan and the then Chief Minister K Karunakaran looted the ornament. Though the allegation was false the ornament was not recovered at that time made the issue more complicated. The Ex-Chairman thinks that it was a mischief of one of the lower priests against the chief priest whose retirement day was marred by the missing jewel of Lord Krishna. The priest and his son was subjected to lie detector test and eventually court held them innocent. The chief priest is no more.
